Eight rare crested ibises were released into the wild in Ishikawa Prefecture on May 31st.
This is the first time in 56 years that these special birds have flown in the main island of Japan. Sadly, they once disappeared from this area because of overhunting and damage to nature. However, a successful breeding program on Sado Island helped increase their population to around 500. Now, the government hopes the birds will make new families in Noto’s rich and beautiful environment.

トキが日本の本州の野生に戻るのは、56年ぶりです。かつてトキは、乱獲や自然環境の悪化によってこの地域から姿を消してしまいました。しかし、佐渡島での繁殖計画が成功し、その数は約500羽まで増えました。現在、政府はトキたちが能登の豊かな自然の中で繁殖し、新しい家族を増やしていくことを期待しています。
