A powerful magnitude 7.4 earthquake hit the Chocó region in western Colombia on Monday morning.
President Abelardo de la Espriella said that at least 111 people were killed and 87 were injured. More than 1,500 houses were damaged or destroyed, and some people were trapped under collapsed buildings. Local authorities suspended commercial flights at 6 airports to check the safety of their facilities.
Experts say this is the strongest earthquake to hit Colombia this century.
