Archaeologists in Türkiye have confirmed that a shipwreck found 30 meters underwater is about 4,700 years old.
It is now considered the oldest known shipwreck in the world. Divers recovered many ancient clay jars from the seabed near Kekova Island. The jars may have been used to carry goods like olive oil and wine across the Mediterranean Sea.
Experts hope the discovery will help us learn more about ancient trade and the lives of sailors long ago.

🔎Pocket View

About 4,700 years ago, Japan was in the Jomon period. Even back then, people in the Mediterranean were using large ships to carry goods. It’s fascinating to imagine how people crossed the sea and traded with distant regions without the transportation we have today. What a romantic story.
