The Okinawa General Bureau announced on June 4 that the newly reconstructed Main Hall of Shuri Castle will open to the public on November 23, 2026, seven years after the devastating fire.
Prior to the reopening, the Japanese government will host an official completion ceremony on November 22 to celebrate the restoration of this cultural landmark. The reconstruction project began in 2022 and is now in its final stage, following the completion of the exterior framework in August 2025. Built with domestic cypress and traditional Okinawan red roof tiles, some recycled from the original structure’s debris, the new hall combines cultural authenticity with sustainability.
The restored building also features enhanced fire-safety technology, including advanced sprinklers and automatic alarm systems, to help prevent future disasters.
沖縄総合事務局は6月4日、復元された首里城正殿を2026年11月23日に一般公開すると発表しました。2019年の大火災から7年を経ての再公開となります。
