Mexico’s President Sheinbaum announced that Mexico will export 1 million barrels of crude oil to Japan. This decision follows a phone call between Sheinbaum and Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi.
The two leaders agreed to strengthen energy cooperation as the conflict in Iran is disrupting global oil supplies.
While Mexico uses most of its oil in domestic refineries, it will fulfill Japan’s request through the state-owned oil company Pemex.
Prime Minister Takaichi also asked Mexico to improve the business environment for Japanese companies operating in the country.
