Japanese mystery writer Keigo Higashino passed away from illness at the age of 68.
He started his career as an author in 1985 after winning the Edogawa Rampo Prize for his debut novel. Over the next 41 years, he wrote 106 books and won the prestigious Naoki Prize for one of his best-selling works, The Devotion of Suspect X. He was also recognized internationally and received Japan’s Purple Ribbon Medal for his great contributions to literature.
A new book in his popular “Galileo” series will be published this August as his final work.
日本のミステリー作家、東野圭吾さんが病気のため68歳で亡くなりました。
彼は1985年にデビュー作で江戸川乱歩賞を受賞し、作家としての活動を始めました。その後41年間で106冊の本を書き、大ヒット作『容疑者Xの献身』で権威ある直木賞を受賞しました。また海外でも高く評価され、日本の文学への大きな貢献が認められ、紫綬褒章（しじゅほうしょう）を受章しました。
人気シリーズ「ガリレオ」の新作は、遺作として今年8月に出版される予定です。
