Japan’s Defense Ministry announced that a Russian military plane entered Japanese airspace over the Northern Territories on September 5.
The surveillance aircraft flew toward the Pacific Ocean and traveled south toward the waters near Miyagi Prefecture before turning back. In response, Japan’s Air Self-Defense Force launched fighter jets to monitor the aircraft. Japanese officials are currently checking the reason for the flight.
Japan claims these islands as its own territory and says it aims to resolve the dispute through diplomacy.

防衛省は、9月5日にロシア軍の航空機が北方領土上空の日本の領空に入ったと発表しました。
その偵察機は太平洋側へ向かい、宮城県沖の近くまで南下した後、引き返しました。これに対応するため、航空自衛隊は戦闘機を緊急発進させ、航空機を警戒しました。日本の担当者は、今回の飛行の目的について調査を進めています。
日本はこれらの島々を自国の領土だと主張しており、外交によってこの問題を解決することを目指しています。
