President Donald Trump met with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House to talk about trade, artificial intelligence, and security issues.
During the meeting, President Xi asked the United States to handle the sensitive issue of Taiwan with great care. President Trump surprisingly referred to China as an “ally” of the United States during World War II. His unusual choice of words attracted a lot of attention because the 2 countries currently have strong tensions.
Both leaders also emphasized the importance of staying in close contact and working together.

トランプ大統領はホワイトハウスで中国の習近平国家主席と会談し、貿易や人工知能（AI）、安全保障の問題について話し合いました。
会談の中で習主席は、デリケートな問題である台湾問題について、アメリカが十分に慎重に対応するよう求めました。トランプ大統領は、第2次世界大戦中に中国がアメリカの「同盟国」だったと言及しました。現在、両国の間には強い緊張があるため、このような表現を使ったことは大きな注目を集めました。
また、両首脳は今後も緊密に連絡を取り合い、協力していくことの重要性を強調しました。
