Andy Burnham, the former mayor of Manchester, became the new UK Prime Minister.
He won the ruling Labour Party leadership election with overwhelming support from party members. Known as the “King of the North” for his work in northern England, he has strongly promoted a plan to develop second capital cities. He also has a special friendship with the mayor of Osaka, who once gave him a takoyaki maker to celebrate their sister-city agreement.
Osaka’s mayor praised his leadership and said he looks forward to strengthening the friendship between the 2 cities.
