Tama Zoological Park in Tokyo recently stopped showing its lions to visitors after 3 female lions died because of the extreme summer heat.
The trouble began in mid-July when several lions became sick and lost their appetite and energy. Unfortunately, 3 lions named Mugi, Ichigo, and Luena passed away between late July and early August despite receiving medical care. Veterinarians found that severe heat caused dehydration and multiple organ failure, and 3 other lions are still receiving treatment.
To protect the remaining lions, the zoo installed additional cooling equipment, including spot coolers and mist sprayers, in their indoor facilities.
東京の多摩動物公園では、厳しい夏の暑さにより3頭のメスライオンが死んだことを受け、ライオンの展示を一時中止しました。
問題は7月中旬に始まり、複数のライオンが食欲や元気を失って体調を崩しました。残念ながら、ムギ、イチゴ、ルエナという名前の3頭は治療を受けましたが、7月下旬から8月上旬にかけて亡くなりました。獣医師は、猛暑による脱水症状と多臓器不全が原因だったと判断しており、現在もほかの3頭が治療を受けています。
残されたライオンを守るため、動物園は非公開の飼育施設にスポットクーラーやミスト噴射装置などの追加の冷房設備を設置しました。
