The World Health Organization (WHO) declared a “public health emergency” due to a new Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
This dangerous disease began spreading in April in the Ituri region, and a specific type called the “Bundibugyo strain” was found. The African Union reported that 87 people have already died from the infection. Sadly, a man from Congo has also died in neighboring Uganda, showing that the disease is moving across borders.
The WHO warns that the virus is at high risk of spreading further to nearby countries like South Sudan.
