On July 17, JR Shikoku temporarily stopped train services between Mibugawa and Imabari stations on the Yosan Line. A train driver felt unusual shaking because the extreme summer heat had bent the steel rails by more than 4 centimeters. When the air temperature rises to around 35 degrees Celsius, steel rails expand and can easily warp in the hot sun. Fortunately, workers quickly repaired the damaged section, and regular train services resumed 6 hours later. No passengers or crew members were hurt, but the incident highlights how extreme heat can affect public transportation.
